The Stanford Performance Test Series , the latest version usually referred to simply as " Stanford 10 " or SAT-10 , is a set of standard achievement tests used by school districts in the United States and in American schools abroad to assess children from kindergarten to high school. Millions of students have been taking exams every year. First published in 1922, the test is now in its tenth version. It is produced by the Harcourt publishing company (now owned by Pearson), and should not be equated with the SAT college entrance test published by the College Board. Although in many states replaced by state-made tests (mandated by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001), it is not equivalent to most of these tests in that the Stanford series is more comprehensive in scope than the newer appraisals. This test is available in 13 levels that are approximately corresponding to the year at school, but correspondence is not appropriate. (The precise comparison between the Stanford test and the country standard is difficult because Stanford's test materials are proprietary.) Each test level is broken down into subtests that include subjects such as reading comprehension, mathematical problem solving, language, spelling, listening comprehension, science, and social sciences.
The Stanford Achievement Test Series is used to measure the academic knowledge of primary and secondary school students. These reports include narrative summaries, process and cluster summaries, and graphical views to clarify student performance and planning and guidance analysis.
Stanford 10 is one of the few tests in the United States that continue to use stanin to report scores.
In Florida public schools, SAT-10 is mandatory at one point, but this requirement was dropped in 2009 as a cost-cutting measure. Some Florida school administrators provoke controversy by 2016 by refusing to allow third graders to progress to fourth grade, despite student class performance, since students have opted out of SAT-10 and standard state tests themselves, Florida's Standard Assessment.
SAT-10 is used in educational research to evaluate policy effectiveness, such as binding teacher salaries with student test results.
A 1937 study found that the performance of mischievous teenage boys in the edition who are currently on the Stanford Performance exam increased under the influence of benzedrine.
