Twelfth grade , senior year , or grade 12 is the last year of high school in North America. In other areas it is also referred to as class 12 or Class 13. In most countries students then graduate at the age of 17-18. Some countries have thirteen classes, while other countries do not have 12/year classes altogether. The twelfth grade is usually the last year of secondary school; Year of Graduation.

Australia
In Australia, the twelfth grade is referred to as Year 12. In New South Wales, students are typically 16 or 17 years old when they enter Year 12 and 17-18 years during graduation (year-end). The majority of students in Year 12 work to obtain an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) or OP (Overall Position, applicable only to students in Queensland state), which will allow them to access courses at the university. In South Australia, this is achieved by completing SACE; in Victoria, this is accomplished by completing VCE; in the Australian Capital Territory, this is achieved by completing the AST and in New South Wales this is accomplished by completing the HSC.
In New South Wales, when completing [HSC], students are required to complete satisfactorily at least 10 units of lessons in an ATAR course that must include:
- eight units of the Category A course
- two English units
- three Course Boards developed from two or more units

Some 12 Years Can Receive Jersey Year 12. Schools choose designs, colors and writing that are printed or sewn into jersey. Sometimes the last two digits of the year they pass are printed on the back (for example, "12" for 2012 school graduates) along with personalized nicknames. The front may show school symbols and student names, sometimes stitched.
Many schools hold year-end "formals" (similar to senior prom). They are held from the time of approval in September to November. Australian private schools often do 12 Years of Ball in January or February 12 Years instead of the end of the formal year.

Brazil
In Brazil, the 12th grade is called terceiro ano doing an ensino mÃÆ' Â © dio , also informally called terceiro colegial , which means really a third grade high school. Usually attended by students aged 17-18 years. During this class, most students sign up to the so-called Exame Nacional do Ensino MÃÆ'Ã… © dio (ENEM), Brazilian SAT equivalents in the US, and vestibular , individual individual entrance exams for each university.

Mexico
In Mexico, the twelfth grade is the final year of high school, where students are usually aged 17-18. There are 12 national programs, in which 9 will get students ready to work, and 3 will prepare students for more advanced study. Two of the vocational programs (media and communications, and agriculture) can also prepare students for more advanced studies if taken in the third year.
Pakistan
In Pakistan, the twelfth grade is the second and final year of college (the first is the eleventh grade) and the equivalent is called "the second year." Students who graduate from the second year are usually between seventeen and eighteen years of age. For admission to university, students undergo standardized tests such as ECAT, MDCAT, and NTS examinations.
Philippines
From 1945 to 2011, the primary education system consisted of six years of elementary education beginning at age 6, and four years of high school education starting at age 12 (where the fourth year is equivalent to 10th grade/Grade 10). Further education is provided by technical or vocational schools, or in higher education institutions such as universities. Although the 1987 Constitution states that basic education is mandatory, it is never enforced.
In 2011, the country began to transition from the old 10-year basic education system to the K-12 education system as mandated by the Ministry of Education; the department stated that the 10-year basic education system is solid and designed for twelve years of teaching, not ten. Thus, the K-12 system was introduced to build an educational continuity that is not only integrated with ASEAN's basic education system but parallel to other parts of the world. Portugal
In Portugal, the 12th grade is considered the final year of compulsory education and the final year of secondary school. In Turkey, the 12th grade is the last year of high school and compulsory study. In March, students interested in college take a test named Transition to the Higher Education Examination (YGS). In this exam, students must answer 160 questions (40 Turkish, 31 Mathematics, 9 Geometry, 15 History, 12 Geography, 8 Philosophy, 5 Religious Studies, 13 Biology, 14 Physics, 13 Chemistry) in 160 minutes. United Kingdom

Tradition related to senior year
In the United States and some other countries, there is a graduation ceremony towards the end of the school year (usually in May or June) more formally referred to as the commencement, where "seniors" officially graduate from high school and receive their diplomas.
In many schools, seniors sit for formal senior portraits at the beginning of the school year or summer before their senior year. This portrait is used in the upcoming graduation yearbook. The senior portraits in this yearbook have full or black and white colors, but larger than smaller black and white images that are usually used for lower classes. Many modern year books are in full color. Some may have information other than the student's name, or an excerpt from the student.
There is a formal dance for students this year, called the senior prom. Some schools hold joint promotions for juniors and seniors, while others separate the two classes into separate dances.
Senior skip day (also known as a senior gutter day) is a day where seniors are not going to school and skipping all their classes. This event/tradition is often not recognized by the administration and school teachers. In some areas it is in retaliation with officially recognized senior holidays, or by allowing senior graduates to pass their final exams ("final exams"). They have entrances with specially chosen music and they are often accompanied by one of their parents.
In Ecuador it was the last year of high school and it was called Tercero de Bachillerato (formerly Sexto Curso) because secondary education consisted of three years EducaciÃÆ'³n Basica (primary education) and three years Bachillerato (baccalaureureate). This follows Escuela Primaria (primary school) which consists of 7 years of primary education, starting from Primero de EducaciÃÆ'³n BÃÆ'¡sica (first) to SÃÆ' Â © ptimo (Seventh).
In Brazil, grade 12 is called terceiro ano and is the third and final value of secondary education.
In Colombia there are some schools that use grade 12, so it can be called "senior year" in some of them.
In Venezuela it is available only in technical schools, referred to as "sexto aÃÆ' Â ± o". Across the country, secondary education ends with the 11th year.
