Scott Garthwaite (born January 22, 1980) also known as the chef Punk Chef is a celebrity deaf chef, television presenter and social media entertainer from the Northeast of England, United Kingdom. He is also known for his personality on display with a vibrant flamboyant pink hairstyle that works for BSL Zone and the BBC cooking program.

Kehidupan awal

Garthwaite was born and raised in Hartlepool in North East England. She was born heard and at the age of 2 years when she was diagnosed with meningitis that made her deaf. He left Deaf School in Middlesbrough with seven GCSE qualifications. Garthwaite learned his culinary trade in 2003 after a temporary stay in Jordan. He enrolled at Hartlepool College of Education further then proceeded to complete a degree in Culinary Arts and Patisseries from Newcastle College in partnership with Leeds Metropolitan University.

Careers

Garthwaite started his first job at Rockliffe Hall in Hurworth, Darlington under the Michelin star chef then he went on to work at Truffle Restaurant in Darlington. While he was studying for a degree when he started to create a video blog in English Sign Language for social media for the deaf community and he was noticed by Flashing Lights, a lead-in production company, who later created the Punk Chef TV series cooking for deaf community. Garthwaite went on to make 9 programs for the BSL Zone which included the Challenge of the Punk Chef Children . He said, "This program aims to show deaf communities how easy it is to make simple and delicious foods and that their disability should not be seen as a barrier to learning new skills, the fact that I am deaf to myself means that I am able to deal with deafness at a level that much more personal, making it easier to guide them through the cooking process.Cheats like Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay and Heston Blumenthal have inspired people to improve their cooking habits for years, so it's good to be able to do the same for the Deaf community ".

On December 3, 2015 Garthwaite made a Christmas appearance on BBC Two's See Hear .

In November 2017, the children's program BSL Zone Up For It produced by Blue Marlin Television, ITV Signpost and Mutt & amp; Jeff for BSLBT invites the Punk Chef to perform in one of their series when he meets a young deaf chef in a children's TV program.

Football

Garthwaite is the manager of the Sunderland Deaf Association Football Club, a soccer club community under the charity of Sunderland AFC, Foundation of Light. He became the first deaf eater in Northeast history to win the English Football League and the Cup also became the first coach to take home the English Quarterly Tactics Cup to the Northeast for the first time in its history.

Awards

In recognition of his work, Garthwaite was awarded the highest award of the North East, the Sound Barrier Stars, for his talent and culinary inspiration for his community for his screenplay as Punk Chef in 2013, as well as being selected to compete in the final to represent England at the International Gastronomy Deaf Culinary Event in Copenhagen, Denmark as part of eight people elected in 2014, then the following year 2015 he was elected once again and he was awarded second place at the International Gastronomy Deaf Culinary Show after walking away empty handed in 2014.
