The Diploma in Engineering or Diploma in Technical Education is a program that focuses on practical training and oriented skills. This is a technical degree that covers only the essentials when ranked with an engineering degree. It aims to provide students with industry-related engineering knowledge or related work, scientific skills, computing & analysis, math techniques, knowledge of English to communicate in the field and the ability to apply problem-solving techniques.

Its duration is 2-3 years. Many countries around the world recognize it as equivalent to Pre-Engineering or Bridging courses when considered to pursue studies in engineering related to undergraduate or associate degree programs. After successful completion of the Diploma in Engineering, students may continue to study further Engineering at the undergraduate level or obtain employment as technicians, technologists, supervisors, supervisors, foremen, engineers, workshop technicians, draftsmen, station technicians (energy, thermal, aviation) , car technician, maintenance & amp; service technicians, mechanics and equipment technicians, CAD/CAM programmers, agricultural supervisors, instrument technicians, junior instructors, manufacturers, tools and die designers, electricians... etc.

In India, the Diploma in Engineering is a special academic award that is usually provided in technical or vocational areas, for example. Engineering, Pharmacy, Designing, etc. Diploma in Engineering Studies is usually held at Polytechnic institutes recognized by the State Council of Technical Education/Exams (eg Uttar Pradesh Technical Education Council) and/or the State Department/Directorate of Technical Education and All India Council for Technical Education. The Holder of the Diploma may sit for an Associate Member examination from the Institution of Engineers (A.M.I.E) membership, Member of Indian Industrial Engineering Institute, Navi Mumbai which is equivalent to an Associate engineering degree. Diploma holders may apply for advanced diploma courses in the employment sector concentrated in their field of study. The Diploma holders are also entitled to enter laterally into the Engineering Program of the third semester at various Technical Universities such as UPTU, VTU, etc., which is entered directly into the second year. The Diploma holders are eligible to enter the part-time to the Engineering Degree Program at various Engineering Universities such as Sri Sai Group of Institutes, Beautiful Professional University, Sharda University, Manipal Technology Institute, Jaipur National University, Sunrise University, Jamia Millia Islamia and Delhi University Technology, center NTTF Technical Training, Technical Education Board Uttarakhand (Dehradun)... etc. In Tamil Nadu the government is revolutionizing technical education by upgrading its diploma program with a newer scheme (Scheme L and advanced) to make it equivalent to the UK HND program that allows students to enter directly into the fifth semester of Technology Degree program. Those who have a twelfth grade (High School) certificate in a combination of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM), need only to complete two years excluding the first year's first year of physics, chemistry, and science subjects.

Pakistan

In Pakistan, the Engineering Diploma is an academic certificate awarded by a technical council. This is a 3-year program offered by public and private sector polytechnic institutions, namely the Associate Engineering Diploma (DAE) equivalent to HSSC/FSc (Pre-Engineering) by the IBCC. A candidate with SSC or TSC can register in this program. This program is offered in various engineering disciplines such as Electrical, Electronic, Computer, Telecommunication, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, etc.

Diploma holders are often called Associate Engineers. They can enroll in the Bachelor of Technology and Bachelor of Engineering program for higher studies.
