The Master of Health Administration or Master of Healthcare Administration ( MHA or MHA ) is a master's degree professional awarded to students who complete a course of study in knowledge and competencies required for careers in health administration, involving the management of hospitals and other health care organizations, as well as public health infrastructure and consultations. Programs may vary according to settings; Although teacher-practitioner modeling programs are usually found in medical colleges, health professions or allied health, class-based programs can be found in business colleges or public health.
Accredited courses generally require students to complete applied experience and course work in areas such as population health, health economics, health policy, organizational behavior, health care organization management, health marketing and communication, human resource management, information systems management and assessment, assessment and improvement of operations, governance, leadership, analysis and application of statistics, financial analysis and management, and strategy formulation and implementation. The degree program is designed to give graduates of health disciplines (in particular) a greater understanding of management issues and prepare them for senior management roles, and is provided by many American, European, Australian, Indian and Sri Lankan (Post-Graduate Institute of Medicine - University of Colombo University). The traditional degree focuses on health administration at the local, state, and federal levels as well as in the nonprofit sector. This is different from the Master of Business Administration or Master of Public Administration degree.

The MHA program is intended to provide students with the essential knowledge needed for senior managerial and planning work in the healthcare services and systems sector. In most countries, applicants must hold, at a minimum, a four-year college degree and have a minimum period of professional experience in the health system. The curriculum, however, varies across universities.

United States
Although many colleges of business, public health, and/or health sciences in the United States have degrees with health administration content, only minorities are accredited through the Accreditation Commission on Health Education Education (CAHME), which is the only accreditor recognized by the US Department of Education United for these programs. In the same way AACSB evaluates accreditation for the MBA program; CAHME accreditation requires programs to meet a set of standards related to areas such as program resources, faculty preparation, curriculum content, and post-graduate career success, and also help ensure that the programs are well integrated with the practice community, their graduates will work in.
Applicants for an accredited program are required to hold a four-year college degree prior to enrollment. Some universities offer a double degree of MBA/MHA with AACSB accreditation, or an MBA/HOM degree program, which can be completed simultaneously or sequentially. Some MHA programs require no professional experience before enrollment; however, most programs require work experience, such as apprenticeship or scholarships, as part of their graduation requirements. Some MHA programs use mixed lectures and online formats, allowing people to continue working while pursuing an MHA degree. There are also several universities, including many non-profit universities, which offer the Master of Healthcare Administration program completely online; However, these programs are currently not eligible for CAHME accreditation due to concerns about the effectiveness of online programs as analogs to developing interpersonal and team-based skills that are more frequently face-to-face in their use in post-graduate professional roles.
Most equivalent Master of Healthcare Administration graduate programs in the United States are offered by public health, business, health and allied schools, or, more rarely, by medical schools. Programs in public or business health schools tend to have more 'traditional' structures; courses are usually taught by academics and have a focus on theory as well as analysis. In the United States, the official academic honors community for graduates of the Master of Healthcare Administration is Upsilon Phi Delta.
Australia
In Australia, the Master of Health Administration can be divided into two parts; the first part provides a graduate of Health Service Management graduate, and, depending on the outcome, the diplomat may be allowed to proceed to the second part culminating in a Master of Healthcare Administration degree. Course structure, and can be either research or course-based. The Master of Health Administration is considered a benchmark qualification by the Health Services Management of Australasia College and the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators. Unlike elsewhere, the Master of Healthcare Administration is not intended primarily for medical practitioners (who have programs provided by their professional organizations) but is open to graduates from any discipline wishing to pursue a career in health administration. Due to various nomenclature in Australia, some universities offer courses as Master of Business (Health Administration) , abbreviated to MBus (Hlth).
