Maintenance Techniques are disciplines and professions applying engineering concepts for optimizing departmental tools, procedures, and budgets to achieve better maintenance, reliability, and availability of equipment.

Maintenance, and therefore maintenance engineering, is increasingly important because of the increasing number of equipment, systems, machinery and infrastructure. Since the Industrial Revolution, devices, equipment, machinery and structures have grown increasingly complex, requiring the number of personnel, calls and related systems required to maintain it. Prior to 2006, the United States spent about US $ 300 billion annually for plant maintenance and operations alone. Maintenance is to ensure the unit fits the destination, with maximum availability with minimum cost. Someone who practices Maintenance Techniques is known as Maintenance Engineer .

Maintenance Engineering Education

Agencies worldwide have recognized the need for Maintenance Techniques. Maintenance Engineers usually have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other Engineering Disciplines. In recent years, specialized undergraduate and graduate programs have been developed. The Degree Program in Maintenance Engineering at the University of Germany-Jordan in Amman takes care of the needs, as well as the Undergraduate Program in Maintenance Engineering at LuleÃÆ'ÂÂÂÂ Â University of Technology. With the growing demand for Chartered Engineers, The University of Central Lancashire in the UK has developed an MSc in Maintenance Engineering currently under accreditation with Engineering and Technology Institutions and Top-up Engineering Bachelors with honors for technicians holding the National Higher Diploma and seeking progress in their professional careers.
