Maintenance Techniques are disciplines and professions applying engineering concepts for optimizing departmental tools, procedures, and budgets to achieve better maintenance, reliability, and availability of equipment.
Maintenance, and therefore maintenance engineering, is increasingly important because of the increasing number of equipment, systems, machinery and infrastructure. Since the Industrial Revolution, devices, equipment, machinery and structures have grown increasingly complex, requiring the number of personnel, calls and related systems required to maintain it. Prior to 2006, the United States spent about US $ 300 billion annually for plant maintenance and operations alone. Maintenance is to ensure the unit fits the destination, with maximum availability with minimum cost. Someone who practices Maintenance Techniques is known as Maintenance Engineer .
