Ikhtisar
The term Chartered Certified Accountant was introduced in 1996. Prior to that date, ACCA members were known as Certified Accountants. It is still allowed for ACCA members to use this term. ACCA members with more than five years post-qualification experience and have completed the continuing professional development required are designated Fellows, and use the FCCA appointment letter in lieu of ACCA.
The term Chartered refers to the Royal Charter given by His Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.
Chartered Certified Accountants work in all areas of business and finance. Some engage in general practical work, others work in the private sector and some are employed by government agencies.
Since Chartered Certified Accountant is a term that is legally protected, individuals who describe themselves as members must be ACCA members. If they engage in public practice, they must comply with additional rules such as holding a practice certificate, being covered by insurance against possible liability claims and submitting to inspections.
