A Bachelor of Information Technology (abbreviation BIT , BInfTech , B.Tech (IT) or BE (IT) ) is an undergraduate academic degree that generally requires three to five years of study. While the degree has a primary focus on computers and technology, it differs from a Computer Science degree where students are also expected to study management and information science, and there are reduced requirements for math. A degree in computer science can be expected to concentrate on the scientific aspects of computing, while a degree in information technology can be expected to concentrate on business and communications computing applications. There is more emphasis on these two areas in the field of e-commerce, e-business and information technology degree programs. The specific names for the degree vary in different countries, and even universities in those countries.
This is in contrast to the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology which is a bachelor degree usually given after a period of three to four years of undergraduate course in Information Technology (IT). The degree itself is a Bachelor of Science with institutions that provide degrees in information technology and related fields.

Australia
In BIT is a bachelor degree of three years or four years.
At the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS), BIT is a three-year, co-op scholarship degree with two six-month work placements. At the University of New South Wales, BIT is referred to as "Business in Information Technology" and is also a four-year co-op scholarship degree.
At the University of Sydney, BIT is a four-year technical program, related to such degrees as Computer Science and Software Engineering.
At Swinburne University of Technology, BIT is a three-year co-op scholarship that combines two six-month work placements.
At RMIT University, BIT is offered as a three-year program, giving students a choice of major majors are: Application Programming, Business Applications, Multimedia Design, Network Programming, System Administration and Web Systems
The state of the BIT program in Australia is unstable, as many universities offer it as a technical program while others as businesses, e-commerce related programs. The Australian Computer Society recognizes all degrees of BIT, but Australian Engineers recognize only the technical BIT degree.
Canada
In Canada, Carleton University and Algonquin College have jointly created 3 streams of Bachelor Degree in Information Technology; Interactive & amp; Design, Network Technology, and Photonics & amp; Laser Technology. The University of Ontario Institute of Technology also offers streams in Network & amp; Information Technology Security, and Game Development and Entrepreneurship.
India
In India, the Bachelor of Information Technology is a 4 year undergraduate program. The course is divided into eight semesters, and degrees are awarded after the completion of the four-year program. Levels are awarded by governments and private agencies, as well as a number of other prestigious institutions (both public and private-funded) to their professional engineering programs. However, most other institutions in India use Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.)/Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in an IT degree. Entry into the program is conducted through a national entrance test. There is also a three-year course that provides a B.Sc degree at the end of the program. Some universities even offer a B.Sc IT course either through a regular program or through a distance learning program. However, there is not much demand for B.Sc. Of course because there is a course B.Tech or BE IT. There are some top universities in India for IT titles such as IIT, NIT, private institutions, Pune University (SPPU) colleges like (PES Modern College of Engineering, Pune), University of Mumbai etc.
Namibia
The Polytechnic of Namibia offers a 3-year degree in IT in three areas of specialization: Business Computing, system administration and networking & amp; software development
Dutch
In the Netherlands a Bachelor degree in Information and Communication Technology is awarded after four years of study and completion of a thesis with specializations in specific fields such as Informatics, Computer Engineering, Information Science or Software Engineering.
The official title is given to a student after successfully defending his thesis before the examining committee is an ingenieur (abbr. Ing.) And B.ICT, the first being the Dutch equivalent with a Bachelor of Engineering degree.
Iran
In Iran Bachelor Degree in Information Technology is awarded after four years of study and completion of a thesis with specialization in specific areas such as e-learning, computer networking, information security, data mining, software development, e-commerce
In Iran, Sharif University of Technology, Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic) and Teheran University are certain universities that organize this course in BSc and MSc.
Also, Teheran Virtual University and Noure-Touba Virtual University are virtual learning where hold IT courses in Iran.
In Iran, students who graduate from this course have graduated subjects on Data Structure, Algorithm Design, Computer Networking, Artificial Intelligence, Database Concepts, Operating Systems, Computer Architecture, Software Engineering, Management Theory, Technical Economics and...
South Africa
In South Africa, the University of Pretoria offers the Baccalaureus degree in Information Technology (BIT) as a four-year undergraduate program. The University of Pretoria is also the first university in South Africa to offer this degree. Upon successful completion of a BIT degree, a student may proceed with a part-time or full-time program at the University of Pretoria to end his professional training or enter the workforce. The BIT course includes, but is not limited to, the following subjects: Business Management, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, English, Programming and Advanced Programming, Systems Development, Philosophy, Financial Accounting, Data Structures and Algorithms, Operating Systems, Databases, Networks, Artificial Intelligence, Information and Retrieval Organization, Computer Architecture, Software Engineering, Multimedia. As an alternative to BIT, the Computer Science Department of Pretoria University offers two three-year degrees, BSc CS and BSc IT.
Sri Lanka
In Sri Lanka, the Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) is a 3-year bachelor degree without specialization, largely awarded as an external degree.
The University of Colombo's School of Computing (UCSC) and the Faculty of Information Technology of Moratuwa University offer a three-year external degree program leading to a Bachelor of Information Technology (External). First introduced UCSC in 2000, it combines e-learning.
The Faculty of Applied Science The Vavuniya Campus of Jaffna University (VCUoJ) and the Applied Science Faculty of Rajarata University offer an internal three-year degree program leading to Bachelor of Information & amp; Communication Technology (BICT) which is largely 3 years without specialization or 4 years of specialization. University of Colombo School of Computing, is used to award BICT which has since been renamed Bachelor of Information Systems (BIS).
