Literature Placement and Advanced English Composition (or AP English Literature and Composition , AP Lit and Comp , English AP Senior , AP Lit , or AP English IV ) is the program and examination offered by the College Board as part of the Advanced Placement Program. When the first AP exam was implemented, English and English Literature were originally combined. They split up in 1980.

Kursus ini

Designated for students motivated by standard English instruction, an interest in exploring and analyzing challenging classical and contemporary literature, and a desire to analyze and interpret dominant literary genres and themes, often offered to senior high school and other AP English courses, Language UK AP and Composition, for junior. The College Board does not limit courses by class. Students learn and apply literary and writing analysis methods with a variety of purposes to improve accuracy in expressions. Students in English Literature AP and Composition usually sit for national AP exams given each May to the College Board by the Educational Testing Service. The College Board publishes a change of information about all AP courses and exams on its website.

In one of the three essays written by the students as part of the exam, students choose a literary work that they will write. Test readers who get essays on jobs they do not read usually deliver essays to readers who have them. The assessment guide used by the reader to assess the essay is developed by experienced readers on the site before the reading begins every June, using some actual exam essays. Because these assessment guides do not exist before Reading, instructors can not teach them but focus on encouraging text-based analysis.

Benefits

Independent research on the academic benefits of the English Literature Course for Advanced Placement and Composition indicates that not all students receive academic benefits from participating in the course. In a study with a sample size of over 90,000, the authors found that students taking English Literature and AP Composition courses received no improvement in academic achievement unless they also prepared and took the AP test. The authors controlled over 70 intervening variables and found that AP students who took and passed the English Composition and Literature exam had an ACT score that was 2.8 points higher than non-AP students or AP English students who did not take their AP AP tests. This leads to the authors declaring that AP participation "... is not beneficial for students who only enroll in the course..."
