Histori

Named after a 16th-century British martyr of the Reformation, Nicholas Ridley, Ridley College was founded on 1 March 1910 to provide residential theological training. Its founders are evangelical Anglican priests and lay people from across Victoria. The Principles of Ridley College have incorporated the prominent New Testament scholar Leon Morris (1914-2006, principal of 1964-1979), known for his studies of redemption.

For much of its history, Ridley College's main feature is its campus, with students housed mainly in Aiken and Baker buildings. As with other residential colleges in the area, it provides its students with a variety of academic, social and religious programs. From 1965 to 2005, Ridley was a residential college affiliated with the University of Melbourne and, in 1972, the university became the first university open to men and women. In 2005, residential colleges were closed due to rising costs. The following year, it was reopened to provide special accommodation for international students from nearby universities, the University of Melbourne, RMIT University, and Monash University. The residential college was closed back in late 2007. Ridley Melbourne maintains a small residential theological community in the renamed Baker building (formerly Bearham).

Pendidikan dan pelatihan

Ridley College aims to provide a Christian theological formation with a balance in three areas: service practice, Christian thought (theology and ethics) and biblical studies (including Greek and Hebrew). While colleges teach from an evangelical theological perspective, it is open to Christians from all backgrounds. The aim is to equip students for Christian ministry in a variety of settings, including church denominations and cross-cultural contexts. Colleges actively support parachurch and ordained work and the role of the local church. Together with Trinity College of Theology, Ridley also trains ordinands for ministry in the Anglican Diocese in Melbourne and other Anglican dioceses.

Ridley's academic resources include his library and bookstore. The Leon Morris Library has a collection of 46,000 volumes and 150 journal subscriptions and contains significant resources in Bible studies. That

Ridley College is a government-recognized tertiary institution and provider of CRICOS, offering education to international students. This means that domestic students have access to government support for school fees. The campus offers undergraduate, postgraduate and graduate programs as well as courses from the Australian College of Theology, education provider for 20 Australian Christian colleges. Its programs include Master of Divinity, Graduate Diploma of Divinity and Bachelor of Theology.

There have been several developments in recent years on campus. In 2008, Ridley College completed a new vision for development and began restructuring its education around six learning communities. This includes a university distance learning program, eRidley, founded in 2007. eRidley - renamed Ridley Online in 2014 - is specifically designed to provide training for Australians in remote areas, in collaboration with the Bush Church Relief Society. In June 2008, Ridley College sold half of its properties to residential developers, including the Aickin, Baker, Cumnock and Larcombe buildings and an octagonal chapel designed by James Stahle. The Bearham House was later renamed Baker to maintain naming according to the principal. In May 2009, Ridley announced the establishment of the Jonathan Edwards Center affiliated with Jonathan Edwards Center at Yale University. Kenneth Minkema, executive director of Jonathan Edwards Center, commented, "The establishment of Jonathan Edwards Center-Australia at Ridley is a significant extension of Edwards's scholarship and will serve both academia and the church."
