About
The first scholarship examination by the University of New Zealand was held in May 1872. After 1962, the scholarship was awarded by the University Entrance Board. The New Zealand Qualification Authority took over the work of the University Entrance Council in 1991.
From 1989 to 2003, scholarships were awarded to 3-4% of Bursari's top students. In response to the elimination of separate scholarship exams, a group of teachers set up their own scholarship exam, which later became New Zealand's Trust Scholarships Trust (NZEST). [1]
A "NCEA Level 4" qualification was proposed in the 1998 Cabinet paper "Qualifications for Youth Aged 16 to 19 Years" and the discussion concluded that there were external examinations and scholarships awarded. [2] The New Zealand Scholarship Examination commenced in 2004. NZEST suspended its examination and is now providing financial assistance to students studying at universities in New Zealand.
The 2004 exam, in accordance with the NCEA, is a referenced criterion and produces some unexpected results distribution. Several reviews of media and political awards and debates followed. Scholarship checks are mostly changed. Scholarships in 2005 were awarded to the top three percent of the NCEA Level 3 candidates in these subjects, given that the testers satisfied with the appropriate standards have been met. The monetary rewards are restructured and the credit score has been removed from the exam.

The 2004 Exam from New Zealand Scholarship by New Zealand Qualifications Authority was marred by controversy, particularly irregular pass rates (eg 0.9% pass rate for Biology 2004). The head of the Authority then resigned over the matter and fellowshiped.
