Plot
The show focuses on Leonardo the lion (voiced by Jackson Beck), the king of Bongo Congo which has good meanings but often is not worthy, a fictional African country famous for its bongosnya. King Leonardo is assisted in all respects by a quiet competent skeleton named Odie Cologne or "Odie O. Cologne" (voiced by Allen Swift, sounds like Bill Bixby). Odie, the one who really keeps the kingdom in balance, has been in the king's side since they are still children.
King Leonardo's permanent enemy is Biggie Rat who is shown by gangsters (voiced by Beck), who routinely seeks to overthrow Leonardo and take over Bongo Congo. Biggie often gets the help of Leonardo's brother, Itchy Brother (voiced by Swift), or the evil German inventor named Professor Messer (voiced by Beck). Biggie and his various plans always end up landing in the dungeon or escaping.
The exclusive "The King and Odie" episodes for Tennessee Tuxedo and His Tales featuring Biggie Rat and Itchy Brothers employed by Mr. Mad (voiced by Norman Rose), a mad scientist with a dominating personality. When every plan fails, Master Mad disappears "as if by magic" before she can be arrested.

Appearance later
After King Leonardo and his Short Subject ended, a new segment season of "The King and Odie" and "The Hunter" continued to be produced and broadcasted on TV Total Tennessee Tuxedo and His Tales , which aired in 1963. The following year, Total TV launched its most popular series, Underdog . When Underdog aired in 1964, it featured a repetition of The Hunter , while The Hunter's was a former place in Tennessee Tuxedo The program is filled by the repetition of Tooter Turtle .
Another segment of King Leonardo's original show is Twinkles (orange elephant), which simultaneously appears as a feature on Jay Ward Rocky and his Friends [ Upon Ward's objections; after some time, it's seen in King Leonardo exclusively]. The title character is presented as the mascot of Twinkles Cereal, the product of the event's main sponsor, General Mills. The 90 second segment of Twinkles continued to air during the 1960s, and was presented in a 15 minute format titled The King and Odie , but was later removed after a fire-fighting character replaced the elephant as a mascot cereals. Segments also appeared during some NBC network replays Underdog . The Twinkles segment is not included when King Leonardo And The Short Subject is syndicated in a half hour format during the 1980s.
The King of Leonardo and the Short Subject were part of NBC's early-morning lineup until 1963. Each program follows the The Shari Lewis Show.
Animations for the initial segment of the show were produced by TV Spots, with the next episode by Gamma Productions, the same Mexican-based studio that does a lot of work for Jay Ward Productions. For this reason, and due to common sponsorship by General Mills, Gamma is often associated with Total Television Productions and Jay Ward Productions. TV Spots is primarily an animated ad manufacturer, but also contracted to several segments from Rocky and His Friends for Jay Ward Productions.
In the replay, Total Television shorts are often packed together with the Jay Ward cartoon. Despite similar limited animation styles, they are two separate studios.
King Leonardo , even though the previous episode was repackaged for syndication as The King and Odie during the mid-1960s, never reached the popularity of the other Total Television. series, Underdog and Tennessee Tuxedo , and rarely seen on television today. Starting in 2006, the Black Family Channel aired the show on block BFC Kids TV program until its channel died a year later. The characters of the show are also featured in an eight-edition comic book produced by Dell Comics and Gold Key.
