The Hindi Wikipedia was launched on July 11, 2003. In July 2010, Google announced that it has worked with Wikipedia Hindi to translate English articles into Hindi and so far (since 2008) translated 600,000 words in Hindi using a combination of Google Translate and manual inspection. This coordinated translation is responsible for the 20% growth rate and calculation for the site.
In 2013 (and considering statistics since 2007), January to May 2008 was the only period in which Wikipedia Hindi experienced several consecutive months with double-digit growth (in word count), taking it from 1.7 to 2.8 million words.
