Employee of the Month is a talk show hosted by Catie Lazarus featuring guests with exciting work, ranging from television figures and musicians to comedians and puppeteers. It started as a live show in 2010 and became a podcast in 2012. Lazarus has hosted live recordings at the Occupation Elections Ceremony in New York City, 92 Y in Los Angeles and The Bell House in Brooklyn. It has been syndicated for airing on Sirius XM Radio. The show is currently performed and recorded live at Joe's Pub in New York City every month.

Lazarus hatches ideas for podcasts when he is frustrated with his own efforts in finding a job, which makes him approach successful people to talk about their work and how they have landed their dream job.

It has more than 41,000 followers at SoundCloud as of July 2013.

Reception

This event has been called "loved" by The New York Times, and is "funny" and "ambitious" by BlackBook. The New Yorker praised the show for the "very famous" guest and the "unorthodox" unambiguous interview style of Lazarus. New York features a show in the "Seriously Funny" section, calling Lazarus "adorable" as he "takes the brains of people with a much cooler job than you".

Gothamist writes that "Catie Lazarus Is One of the Best Live Talks Hosts In NYC," urges his readers to capture Lazarus and "the guests... who are amazing... consistently" on his live show at Joe's Pub in the Village.

The famous interview subject

Jon Stewart chose Employee of the Month to give his first interview after announcing his decision to retire from the Everyday Event in February, 2015. Stewart follows many collaborators, including Aasif Mandvi, Dave Attell, Wyatt Cenac, Buck Henry , Mo Rocca, David Wain, and Lewis Black as guests on the show; in turn, Lazarus himself appeared on the Daily Show in a sketch about prequel to the Hot Tub Time Machine. Stewart discusses some of his future plans, reassuring fans that he is not retiring. Although he plans to spend more time with his family, he suggests that he continue writing - which Lazarus responds to by giving him a notebook as a parting gift - and he can even go back to a stand-up comedy.
